One question we have been asked frequently, and that you may be wondering is how this has all come to be. Sometimes we have to ask ourself the same question! We are thankful for the opportunity to move to Vietnam, for the support of our family and friends and for the ability to use our knowledge in a different context.
When your graduate program is only one year long, you are forced to start thinking about the sometimes dreaded "what's next?" not long after you have begun. But our "what's next?" quickly became the most exciting question to answer. On a new years day walk on Whidbey Island, Kevin planted the seed in my head about the immense possibilities of traveling, and potentially living abroad after we graduated. I jumped on the idea, and pretty much from that moment onward we spent most of our *limited* free time this year interviewing, planning, coordinating and most importantly, dreaming about a move abroad.
On October 2nd, we will be hopping on a one-way flight to Ho Chi Minh City, the place that we will call home. We will be joining the team at Learning Strategies, the first organization in Vietnam to offer behavioral support services to families and schools. We are eager and excited to apply the knowledge we gained this year in graduate school in a radically different context.
We hope this blog can serve as a way to stay connected with family and friends, keep ourselves accountable for documenting treasured memories and most importantly to share some of the rich history and beauty of Vietnam with all the people we love.
Cheers,
Madelyn & Kevin
